Luddite Stereo is home to Jeff Goodwin, a 42-year old self-proclaimed musicophile. I’ve been a serious listener and lover of music for most of my life, have worked as a DJ, played instruments, and written about music for pleasure.
What began 25+ years ago as an unhealthy obsession with Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin (doesn’t every white teenage male start there?) has evolved into a long, winding exploration through hundreds of artists, songs, and albums within the genres of classic rock, alternative, electronic, indie rock, punk, pop, folk, jazz, hip-hop, rap, soul, and experimental music.
One of the greatest things about music is that just when you think you’ve discovered it all, there’s more. Not just the next great artists, but their influences. And their influences too. It never stops.
Thanks for visiting and enjoy.
Jeff
Good review of Bon Iver, Bon Iver. Have listened to this album multiple times as its available free to stream. Have enjoyed each time. Makes me almost want to purchase the CD though I have sworn off physical possession of music due to lack of space in my NYC apt. You’ve captured the essence of it. Have subscribed to your blog.
Hey dude, thanks for the shout-out on my Horrors review on MVremix. I’m always lookin to reach an audience, so if you ever need any extra writers, I’d be more than happy to help out. Your writing’s great.
I think we may have a few things in common. I am a 36 yr old who just started my own blog (www.amusicalnote.wordpress.com) writing album reviews. I was surprised to see your last 3 reviews were also 3 of my most recent album purchases. I love the Horrors, Wilco is really growing on me and at the moment I don’t quite know what to make of St.Vincent, but am hoping to discover the greatness that you and many others reviewers speak of.
I really enjoy your writing and it just makes me realise how far I have to go to write a really good review.
Interested to know the story behind the name of your site?

Nice set up you got here man, I was hoping I could inquire about a release of my latest album, I’m a 23 year old musician, not emcee and yes I am an emcee. I’d really appreciate the support, I have a very alternative vibe to me coming from Detroit. I’d just hope you could take a listen to something new that has an influence of much old. http://cel-maniller.bandcamp.com/album/peanut-butter-mech-tha-herban-lyf-project-dasmuku-labs-presents-cel-man-iller-zakum-41-vertical-smiles-the-soundtrack-to-earths-demise-armageddon-blewprints We will definitely be following your blog none the less, I personally love what you’ve got here.
Hi, this is Dean. Just would like you to know that I enjoy reading your reviews. Keep on writing Jeff, you make my world of music much more resonant.
Thanks Dean! It’s great when someone says they enjoy reading my stuff. Keeps me going…
I love your reviews! I have subscribed to your blog. Do you have a facebook account?
Sometimes I wonder if anyone connects to certain albums on the same frequency that I do. But then I read this site; it’s like you’ve tapped into my brain and expressed my conscious and unconscious thoughts more eloquently than I can. I often come back to re-read the reviews of Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming and Emergency & I because they make listening to the album even more enjoyable. I’m finally starting to write reviews myself, and this site is reason why. Thanks!
That’s high praise DJ, I really appreciate it. As a reader, my favorite music reviews have always been ones that not only capture an album, but can almost accompany it. Thanks for reading and good luck with your writing. Let me know when you post some of your work…
Thanks, Jeff. For me, writing in and of itself is hard, and writing about music, which is always going to be mostly subjective and about which my opinions can be very fluid, is even harder (I’m sure you can relate). I don’t yet know what my goal is in writing music, only that I enjoy getting my thoughts expressed. That said, I’ve posted a few items on a wordpress blog, including a pseudo-review of “Local Business” by Titus Andronicus here: http://wp.me/p2FfxQ-60. Keep up the great reviews, I’m going to have to check out Kendrick Lamar now…
I thought I was the only one who often come back to reread Jeff’s reviews. And I am always looking forward to his new posts. =)
